• Accelerating India’s Green Maritime Transition •
2nd Edition of Exclusive Conference & Awards
12 August 2026, Scope Convention Centre - New Delhi
India’s maritime sector is entering a transformative era where sustainability is becoming central to the future of port-led economic growth. With nearly 95% of the country’s trade by volume and around 70% by value moving through maritime routes, ports are no longer viewed merely as cargo gateways — they are now strategic hubs for energy transition, industrial competitiveness, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure development.
Over the past few years, ports across India — including major ports, non-major ports, private terminals, and maritime logistics hubs — have increasingly begun integrating sustainability into their operational and infrastructure strategies. The maritime sector is witnessing a gradual but significant shift from conventional port operations toward greener, smarter, and more environmentally responsible practices.
Driven by rising environmental awareness, global decarbonization targets, ESG expectations, and the need for long-term operational resilience, ports are actively implementing a wide range of sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing their environmental footprint while enhancing efficiency and competitiveness.
Across the country, ports are:
• Expanding the adoption of renewable energy through large-scale solar and wind installations
• Electrifying cargo handling equipment and port vehicles to reduce fossil fuel dependency
• Introducing shore power systems to minimize vessel emissions at berth
• Investing in smart and digital infrastructure for energy optimization and operational efficiency
• Implementing advanced waste management, wastewater treatment, and pollution control systems
• Promoting green logistics and multimodal connectivity to reduce transportation emissions
• Strengthening oil spill response mechanisms and marine ecosystem protection measures
• Enhancing green cover, water conservation, and climate resilience infrastructure within port ecosystems
• Exploring alternative fuels such as green hydrogen, LNG, and other low-carbon maritime solutions
Ports are also increasingly aligning their strategies with global environmental frameworks and sustainability benchmarks, recognizing that green transformation is becoming essential for attracting investment, maintaining international competitiveness, and meeting evolving trade and shipping expectations.
This momentum is being further accelerated by strong policy support and strategic initiatives from the Government of India. Through programs such as Maritime India Vision 2030, Harit Sagar – Green Port Guidelines, Sagarmala Programme, the National Logistics Policy and the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the government is creating a robust framework to promote cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready maritime infrastructure.
Together, these developments are driving a new era of sustainable maritime growth — positioning India’s ports not only as trade gateways, but as critical enablers of the nation’s broader energy transition and climate goals.
Globally, the maritime industry is also facing mounting pressure to decarbonize in line with evolving International Maritime Organization (IMO) targets, ESG expectations, and sustainable finance requirements. Ports that fail to transition toward cleaner and smarter operations risk losing long-term competitiveness in global trade and logistics networks.
Against this backdrop, the 2nd Edition of Exclusive Conference & Awards SustainPort India 2026 under the theme: “Accelerating India’s Green Maritime Transition” will serve as a strategic national platform to bring together policymakers, port authorities, shipping companies, logistics players, renewable energy developers, technology providers, investors, sustainability experts, and industry leaders to discuss the next phase of India’s green maritime transformation.
Scheduled on 12 August 2026 at Scope Convention Centre - New Delhi, the conference will focus on enabling scalable, future-ready, and globally competitive maritime infrastructure through:
• Port decarbonization strategies
• Renewable energy and green hydrogen integration
• Shore power and vessel electrification
• Smart and digital port ecosystems
• ESG and sustainable financing
• Green logistics and multimodal connectivity
• Climate resilience and coastal sustainability
• Circular economy and waste management solutions
The conference will culminate with the prestigious Green Gateway Awards 2026, recognizing ports, terminals, organizations, and leaders demonstrating excellence in sustainability, innovation, environmental stewardship, and green maritime leadership.
As India moves toward becoming a leading global maritime economy, the transition toward greener, smarter, and more resilient ports is no longer aspirational — it is imperative. The 2nd Edition of Exclusive Conference & Awards SustainPort India 2026 aims to catalyze this transition by fostering collaboration, showcasing innovation, and celebrating the leaders shaping the future of India’s sustainable maritime ecosystem.
