India's only Expo on CCUS with Special Focus on Cement Industry

Path to Decarbonise the Cement Industry

To bring insights on current state and trends of carbon mitigation technologies and strategies in the cement industry, Mission Energy Foundation is organising a two day conference and expo cemCCUS – 2023 specially for the cement sector on on 24-25 August 2023 at Hyatt Centric, New Delhi.

Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage technologies (CCUS) are set to play a crucial role in the world’s future decarbonisation efforts. Alongside other mitigation techniques and further advances in renewable energy innovations, they are increasingly seen as powerful – and necessary – tools to reduce and potentially eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere as well as removing existing CO2 from the air. Innovative technologies with the potential to make a substantial impact on the future of CO2 emissions reductions from the cement industry are being developed and demonstrated today. With CCUS considered being one of the most practical methods to achieve deep decarbonisation and its involvement in advancing CCUS solutions for the cement sector.

What is abundantly clear is that we need to accelerate and deploy CCUS projects across cement sector to achieve a critical mass of commercial deployment by 2030, in order to reach the economy-wide scale needed to meet mid-century decarbonisation targets. Additionally, the global cement industry has committed to reducing carbon emissions, and research and development of these technologies are actively being pursued to bring most advanced and proven technologies for carbon capture in the cement industry. With many proven technologies in the power industry, it has more quickly been translated to the cement industry; however, it comes with high energy costs but show promise for the future.

Naturally where there are opportunities and there are challenges, not least in the cost-effective transportation and storage of industrial CO2, storage space and integrity, demand for CO2, incentivisation and ROI, and the policies needed as well as the legal and regulatory frameworks. Possibly the most daunting challenge will be balancing the energy demands of a truly effective large-scale CCUS infrastructure. To bring insights on current state and trends of carbon mitigation technologies and strategies in the cement industry, Mission Energy Foundation is organising a two day conference and expo cemCCUS – 2023 specially for the cement sector on on 24-25 August 2023 at Hyatt Centric, New Delhi.

cemCCUS - 2023 will unveil the very latest current and emerging technologies from some of the sector’s leading experts and energy leaders while providing a showcase for innovative models that can capture carbon’s potential by turning CO2 by-products into profitable applications for cement industry. The conference brings insights on common non-capture strategies for reducing CO2 emissions, including energy efficiency, the use of alternative fuels, and the increased use of blended cements types. It also gave details on capture technologies, including chemical absorption, oxy-combustion, calcium looping, membranes, and direct capture.

cemCCUS - 2023 will bring together more than 25+ speakers and over 150+ delegates to debate and discuss the latest technologies and solutions, strategies, innovations, current and future regulations, by-products and strategies for captured CO2 and the latest and next-generation techniques and models to help foster a truly sustainable, cost-effective and resource-efficient CCUS for the cement sector.

Objectives and Outputs cemCCUS - 2023 is to

Bring Cement Industry under one roof to discuss future of CCUS
Discuss views on CCUS in decarbonisation of the Cement Industry
Explore the ways to promote CO2 usage
Abate industry through carbon finance and other innovative means
Decide way forward and carve out role of decarbonisation of the cement industry
Clarity on the policies which will promote low carbon cement production in India by implementing CCUS projects.
